Afrika Tikkun township triathletes: Virgin Active London Triathlon 2013
Thabiso Peloeng 24, Philip Tshoma 23 and Karabo Seduma 22 are unique and inspiring individuals who have successfully learned and developed the art of effective teamwork.
The three young men, all actively contributing to the work of Afrika Tikkun’s community development projects, winged their way to London as participants in one of the world’s most gruelling tests of endurance: the Virgin Active London Triathlon.
The athletes were hosted by Belron®, who have been supporting Afrika Tikkun since 2002, having raised over 4 million Euros, enabling us to build community centres and provide a wide range of programmes for children and their families.
Intern Sports Coach Thabiso says: “Afrika Tikkun changed my life. Working at Afrika Tikkun has driven me to pursue studies in Sports Management so I can empower myself and transfer the skills to the children and youth in my community. My coach as a role model has motivated me to reach for the stars.”
Philip met an old friend one day who told him about the sports programme at Afrika Tikkun and the holistic programmes we offer. “I didn’t waste any time. I joined Afrika Tikkun’s Child and Youth Development Programme and in two months I was taken in as a Volunteer in the Sports Programme. I grew a strong attachment to Afrika Tikkun as it gave me hope of restructuring my future after the misfortune of having to drop out of school due to lack of funds.”
Karabo began volunteering at Afrika Tikkun and after five months was elevated to become a Youth Intern in charge of the Library and is currently employed as the Library Facilitator. At present, he is also studying for a Bachelor of Education (Bed) with UNISA. Karabo is a bright and ambitious employee of Afrika Tikkun who is always passionate and interested in uplifting the standards of the South African education system.
